What can be done to get rid of warts

The simplest and quickest way is to get a doctor to remove them. Remember there are only two kinds that lend themselves to self-treatment: the common wart and plantar warts, which grow on the soles of the feet. Genital warts must always be treated by a doctor. Don’t expect miracles from pharmacy wart remedies; they have to be painted onto the wart and need constant reapplication before they work. If you are at all concerned about your warts, show them to your doctor and let him decide if the growth is merely a wart or a more serious problem.

Warts are caused by viral infections that make skin cells grow (or multiply) at an accelerated rate. Anyone can develop them but older children seem more susceptible that adults; it is conceivable that with aging many of us develop an immunity to the viruses that cause them.

You can get warts almost anywhere and they may differ in appearance. Common warts are small white or pinkish growths with a cauliflower-like surface; they usually develop on the hands. Flat-surfaced plane warts are found mostly on the faces of children or young adults. Filiform warts are long and narrow and usually appear on the lips, eyelids and face. Plantar warts are small, hard lumps, often covered with calluses, and grow on the soles of the feet. Genital warts may be white (when wet), black, grey or pink, smooth or cauliflower-like.

Common warts may disappear spontaneously but others are often difficult, but not impossible, to cure. Over-the –counter remedies can be used, but be cautious; although they may be effective, they can also inure and destroy healthy tissue. Never use such preparations of the face or on genital warts. These should always be treated by a doctor.

Another kind of wart, the extremely painful one, called as plantar warts. Plantar warts are painful because of their specific composition – they are virtually the same as other warts – but because they occur on the soles of the feet. As a result, each wart is driven into the foot with each step, making it painful to walk, so that medical treatment is necessary. Several methods are currently used to remove plantar warts, some of which may entail a recovery period of several days before it is possible for the patient to walk again.

Your doctor may try burning warts away with chemicals or electricity or freezing them with liquid nitrogen. They may recur, however.
