The mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, received humanitarian from Indian spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar with whom he signed a memorandum of understanding to promote mental wellness initiatives among city dwellers.
Shankar is visiting Brazil to publicize the activities of the Art of Living Foundation, which is present in over 160 countries and teaches breathing techniques to help reduce stress levels and cholesterol, as well as to enhance the immune system, concentration and quality of sleep.
The Art of Living Foundation is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and has consultant status of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), according to the promoters of the visit.
Paes said the proposal could increase profits Shankar receiving about 2.5 million users of the program of “family clinics” in this Brazilian city.
Besides meeting with the mayor, Shankar led a mass prayer in Sao Paulo and one in Rio de Janeiro.
